Consumer Sentiments Survey. The Survey of Consumer Sentiments, initiated in January 1987, is a series of surveys conducted quarterly on a sample of over 1200 households in Peninsular Malaysia to gauge consumer spending trends and sentiments. Consumer behaviour reflects income level and general economic conditions. For the first wave in 2019, the consumer confidence index level continues to hold steady in positivity.There are a number of factors contributing to this positive index level, one of which is the government’s new stamp duty exemption policy which is part of an initiative to encourage home ownership amongst Malaysians. Speaking at the press conference on Malaysian economy’s 3Q performance and outlook yesterday, Zakariah said the lower BCI was due to slower sales orders and production.

Business Confidence in Malaysia averaged 102.78 points from 1998 until 2019, reaching an all time high of 126 points in the third quarter of 2000 and a record low of 70 points in the third quarter of 2019.
